Volunteer Registration for Olive Harvest with Rabbis for Human Rights

"Do what is right and just, rescue the robbed from the hand of the oppressor, this is the word of God" Jeremiah 22:3

For over 20 years, Rabbis for Human Rights has stood beside Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest. We are motivated by the simple belief that everyone is created in the divine image; every family deserves to live, work their land, and make a living without fear for their physical safety. The olive harvest used to be a time for Palestinian families to celebrate the land they worked and lived off of, yet it has turned into a source of fear and danger. This year the trees are laden with fruit, and the settlers are bent on preventing the farmers from reaping the bountiful harvest. The Jewish tradition commands a deep commitment to the pursuit of justice. It is a moral imperative for us to stand beside Palestinians when they call on us.

Amidst the anger and pain, the harvest must be a point of hope and resilience. We invite you to join us alongside our Palestinian partners and the community of those choosing solidarity and responsibility. We will be in the field five days a week, and joining for even just one is a significant gesture of solidarity.

What we’ll do:
Work days begin early in the morning and end in the afternoon. Shuttles will travel from Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.

What to bring:
At least two liters of water, a hat, closed-toed shoes, a valid form of identification (passport preferred), and something to eat.

What to wear:
Long pants and long sleeves. Do not wear any clothing with political symbols or phrases.

Security and Safety:
We assess every workday in advance to ensure the safety of our volunteers and Palestinian partners. Our staff is experienced and trained, yet cannot predict what may happen on any given day. Violence may erupt at the hands of settlers or the army, and the army may try to disperse volunteers and Palestinians from the field. Therefore, it is imperative to listen to staff directives in the field to ensure everyone’s safety. We will remain together as a group throughout the activity.

This is a non-violent action. Any use of physical or verbal violence will incur a lifetime ban from RHR activities.

Sexual harassment: We have a zero-tolerance policy for sexual harassment. Any instance of sexual harassment should be reported to Dana Sharon at 050-899-3889. The victim will decide how to proceed.
